The activities that members were involved in will be brought together and used for both recreation and education in downtown Victoria. Currently Taosphere is exploring and developing these avenues through different divisions and locations. The name of Taosphere’s first urban center is still in limbo however; it will be the intersection of five key elements.
Internet café: Comprised of a series of net connected computers in a relaxed atmosphere and adjoining the coffee bar. The Internet café will be open to the public and to members with certain blocks of time designated for education. Education will be an expansion of Taosphere’s current web needs assessment and business education. As well, the café provides a comfortable non-traditional atmosphere for the continued offering of Taosphere Business Services.
Coffee Bar: A collection of oversized chairs and couches amidst small tables following a flowing pattern off a traditional bar serving coffee, tea and snacks. Alcohol will also be served but only during certain hours and for certain functions. Wired with state of the art surround sound seats and tables can be re-arranged as needed to accommodate night time activities and venues. Other organizations may rent space during the evening for various activities. The coffee bar also includes a secluded covered patio space with adjoining well-ventilated smoking area.
Game’s room: Designed for relaxing after work the main games room includes several pool tables and dartboards. In addition, alcoves are set aside each containing a large HD flat screen television with games and high end gaming systems such as PS3 and XBOX Live.
Dojo: A jigsaw padded floor accented by a mirrored wall, the dojo will be the home of the martial and moving arts division of Taosphere. Offering classes in soft martial arts, moving arts such as yoga and meditation practice. The dojo will also contain training equipment such as punching bags and weight equipment. Additionally other organizations will have the opportunity to teach classes here. Depending on zoning, space and financial considerations space may be allocated for an indoor arena to be used for paintball, laser tag and Parkour/Free Running.
Retail Space: A small street accessible store provides a venue for members to consign items they produce as well as provide income for the centre through the sales of merchandise. Items sold through the retail space will be considered based on the reputation and practices of manufacturers and suppliers. As well, the quality of items and their usefulness will be considered. By emphasizing practical, ethical items we hope to impact, however slightly, the business practices of suppliers.
It may be that we are unable to house all of these facilities in one building whether that be due to zoning or other restrictions. In that event, we will continue building the separate components and house them close together so that if they are separate they will be within walking distance of one another.
